Formby Golf Club is a true championship links golf course, founded in 1884. Running through mature sand dunes and pinewoods, the combination of well protected greens, undulating fairways and challenging tee shots signifies a course of magnificent contrasts.
We have hosted some of the finest events in world golf including The Curtis Cup, multiple Men’s Amateur Championships and multiple home internationals.
Our clubhouse is ranked as the 12th most iconic in the world and provides fabulous Dormy accommodation with a history in which to marvel.
Formby Golf Club was formed in 1884 when local businessman John Bushby convened the first meeting on 11th December.
Formby Golf Club has a long association with amateur golf and has staged the Men’s Amateur Championship on four occasions with champions such as Jose Maria Olazabal and Matteo Manassero, The Brabazon, the Curtis Cup and the British Ladies’ Championships.
Described by Nick Dougherty as ‘the prize jewel on what is England’s finest golfing coast’, Formby is extremely proud of its history.

Formby Golf Club’s original clubhouse was destroyed by fire in 1899 and the present building was erected and opened in 1901.
Our clubhouse has been voted 12th most iconic in the world with a marvellous history. Our clock tower was a gift to the club from the Chairman of the White Star Line of Titanic fame to recognise the club’s 25th Anniversary and the Hippo in our downstairs bar originated from the Nile and went on to serve as a figurehead on HMS Veteran during World War 2.
Formby Golf Club’s Dormy accommodation comprises of 6 delightfully furnished, comfortable double rooms in our main clubhouse.
Dormy guests receive full access privileges to daily member tee times and exclusive access to weekend tee times (Saturday) on Formby Ladies Golf Course.
Traditional full English breakfast is served overlooking the panorama of the golf courses with all Dormy guests enjoying evening use of the fabulous twin table snooker room with its own private bar.
Formby Golf Club’s professional is Andrew Witherup, a fully qualified PGA professional with a strong coaching background having worked with some of the top professionals and amateurs in the game.
Andrew and his team provide a first class service to golfers at the club and with a fully stocked professional shop from brands such as Ping, Footjoy and Titleist providing, clothing, equipment and accessories, this really is a one-stop-shop for all your golfing requirements.
